Safe Driving for Life

Our Campaign

A positive, practical road safety campaign built on cooperation rather than conflict.

Why we started

Coursing Batch carries a wide mix of traffic through a residential area. It is used by HGVs, farm vehicles, delivery vans, commuters, residents and visitors travelling to and from Glastonbury.

Whether we like it or not, it is currently a designated freight route. Rather than simply fighting against that reality, we want to support one another and find a workable compromise.

The road needs to work for everyone: drivers, businesses, residents, pedestrians, children, older people, cyclists and visitors.

One road, many different needs

Glastonbury depends on the people who live here and the many people who visit, trade, deliver, farm, work and travel here. Coursing Batch is part of that wider network.

Our campaign is not about asking one group to give way to another. It is about recognising that everyone can make a small contribution which benefits us all.

Working together. Driving considerately. Arriving safely.

Supporting the campaign is not about taking sides. It is about recognising that patience, courtesy and respect can help unite residents, businesses, professional drivers, commuters and visitors.

Our approach

  • Encourage drivers to respect the 20 mph speed limit.
  • Work constructively with businesses and professional drivers.
  • Use evidence to support practical road safety improvements.
  • Promote courtesy, patience and shared responsibility.
  • Avoid blame, hostility and unnecessary confrontation.
